NEW POTATO VARIETY VODKA
Kattegat vodka originates from one single variety of new potato. In the same way that weather, region and grape add character to a fine wine, our seasonal spuds bring their signature aroma, or heart, to our vodka. 10 kg of new potatoes is needed to develop 500ml of potato vodka. Whereas one litre of grain vodka only requires a kilo of grain. The flavour and quality are given further dimension through master blender Solveig Sommarström's pot still and rectification process. The result is a unique, complex vintage vodka.
A new potato hasn't developed a proper peel, is harvested early season, is small in size and only contains a minimal amount of starch.
ESTELLE
Loved and cherished by farmers for its outstanding qualities and by restaurants for its buttery round taste.
Estelle is the German-born queen of new potatoes. Originally named Penni, the variety was renamed Estelle in 2013 after Princess Estelle of Sweden. Renowned for its premium qualities of resistance, yield and royal taste, its new name is fitting.
APPEARANCE
Estelle is a low-root plant with perfectly small, round, golden-coloured potatoes packed with taste.

HARVEST
It’s famous among farmers thanks to its rich yields of at least three to four harvests per season. Harvest is between early June and late August.
SOLIST
Solist is one of Bjäre's favourite varieties. With its mild taste and attractive shape, the variety earns a place on restaurant plates and dinner tables at home.
Solist is also of German heritage, and despite its young age (it was first developed in 1999), Solist was crowned 'Potato of the Year' in 2013 among hobby farmers.

Solist has a round, oval, attractive shape. The new potato has shallow eyes, smooth yellow skin and flesh. The plant itself is of medium height and produces white flowers.

Nolor, Asklanda Röd, Farbror Frans, Finnmarkspotatis, Freker, Rödpäror, Rökingepotatis, Visingsö Röd, Våmhus, och Västerbotten Röd are some of the names the variety has been given. Today, this common Scandinavian-farmed variety is farmed on a larger scale and known as Rauðar Islenskar.
APPEARANCE
Gammelsvensk Röd is round to oval in shape, with the eyes and navel deeply sunk. The peel is a red-purple hue and its flesh is yellow with a touch of red.
